Part of Canada’s foreign affairs and development efforts,
IDRC invests in knowledge, innovation, and solutions to improve lives and livelihoods in the developing world. IDRC’s mandate is “to initiate, encourage, support, and conduct research into the problems of the developing regions of the world and into the means for applying and adapting scientific, technical, and other knowledge to the economic and social advancement of those regions.”
In 2005, IDRC and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) founded KariaNet to enhance the effectiveness of development projects and programs serving the rural poor in the MENA countries (Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Morocco, Palestine, Sudan, Tunisia, and Yemen). Since 2013, IDRC has been supporting ESDU- representative for Lebanon, one of its member countries in managing KariaNet until early 2017, when it will be fully joining the ranks of ESDU’s R&D projects.
