In the area of micro-enterprise development, management can take diverse forms: individual, partnership, cooperative or management team. Training is on the technical side of management and the unique problems of small businesses often necessary in order to facilitate the successful running of a small enterprise for those managers. This training can also incorporate knowledge of labour standards and safety for all employees of the enterprise and ways to encourage the development of further transferable skills among such employees. Management must be exposed to ways to facilitate the participation of different target groups: youth, underemployed and unemployed persons, and women. The ongoing functions of management require creativity and retraining in order to expose them to methodologies to help them prepare business plans, and develop the behavioural attributes for initiating, planning and implementing rural enterprise development projects effectively.
