Gender Mainstreaming represents the seventh priority topic as demonstrated by the Knowledge and Information Needs Assessment Study undertaken by KariaNet. With Participatory Approach and Community Development, they are the most common topics to all IFAD-funded projects in the region. Although all KariaNet member projects apply Gender Mainstreaming tools and methods, some of them have really developed a significant practical expertise, such as North Kordofan Project and South Kordofan Project in Sudan, and Zaghouan Project and PRODESUD Project in Tunisia.

Among all KariaNet priority topics, Gender Mainstreaming is the one that was strongly backed up by an IFAD Regional Programme. The need to exchange on this topic is evident and KariaNet would do all its best not only to encourage knowledge sharing on this topic but also to extract useful content from any regional initiative that concerned Gender Mainstreaming.

One of the most important activities KariaNet implemented under this topic is the organisation of the 2nd Annual Thematic Workshop in Amman (18-21 September 2006), which brought in the different experiences of the member projects on promoting micro-credit as an efficient instrument of rural women development.
