South Kordofan Rural Development Programme
The overall goal of this ten-year IFAD-initiated programme is to improve and sustain the living standards of smallholder farming and pastoralist households by ensuring food-security and providing social services in a safe environment managed by the communities themselves. More specifically, the programme seeks to:Enhance the productivity and income of individuals and groups within crop and livestock enterprises through the provision of community-based extension services and technical and input support;Encourage equitable management of communal rangelands and farmland - for the purpose of reducing conflict - through changes in the Governments land-use policy and agreements among the groups involved and local councilsReduce the incidence of disease and mortality by establishing community-owned and -managed potable water supplies and basic health facilities; Improve rural roads and community access to markets and public services.Create sustainable rural credit services.Provide rural communities (both men and women) with the capacity to plan, implement and manage their development activities and resolve group conflicts through training and provision of technical assistance; and Establish local-council and state-level institutions to provide cost-effective assistance to rural communities.For more information, see http://www.ifad.org/english/operations/pn/sdn/i544sd/index.htm">http://www.ifad.org/english/operations/pn/sdn/i544sd/index.htm
