Taourirt-Taforalt Rural Development Project
The overall objective of this seven-year IFAD-initiated project is to contribute to the sustainable socio-economic development of the disadvantaged rural population of the hilly areas of the plain between the Beni Snassen mountains in the North and the Horsts mountains in the South. This is expected to lead to an improvement in living conditions and to the development of sustainable systems of natural-resource management. Specific objectives include:
- Land development through participatory rangeland improvement (through land resting, fodder shrubs plantation, and soil and water conservation techniques); participatory forestry improvement; Irrigation development through water use efficiency; and derocking;
- Production intensification through development of suitable technologies and extension strengthening;
- Socio-economic development through women integration and young entrepreneurs in income-generating activities and the development of a domestic water systems in rural communities.
